Wooden double-pitch porch canopy - Fir kit JONCIN

The JONCIN canopy is the only double-pitch (2-span) model in the WoodUp catalogue. Unlike single-pitch canopies, its two symmetrical spans give it a profile resembling a small gabled roof - characteristic of traditional facades, stone houses and architecturally distinctive entrances. It is made from raw solid fir, supplied as a non pre-assembled kit for wall-mounted installation.

The dimensions are fixed: 190 cm in length and 80 cm in depth. The kit includes all structural parts - rafters, tie beams, purlins, kingposts, brackets and screws - with the exception of tiles, slates or other roofing, and wall fixing plugs. Total parcel weight: 20 kg.

  • Complete kit: all structural parts included, ground assembly possible before lifting
  • Compatible with tiles and slates: solid fir structure with thick sections
  • Customisable raw wood: paint, wood stain or saturator to match the facade colour
  • Made in France

Installation tips

The distinctive feature of the double-pitch model is its two-stage assembly. The structure can be pre-assembled on the ground - the kingposts, tie beams and rafters are assembled with dowels and screws before lifting. This makes it easier to check squareness and reduces work at height. Use exterior wood glue (not included) alongside the dowels to reinforce joints before they set.

The bracket supports (105x55 mm) fix directly to the facade. Locate the solid masonry zones - lintel or ring beam - and use expansion wall plugs suited to the substrate. After lifting and fixing the brackets, fit the central ridge piece, then the rafters on each span. Check the symmetry of both spans with a spirit level before tightening definitively.

Apply the protection (wood stain or saturator) before fitting the roofing, on all faces, including the assembly notches. The roofing (tiles, slates or zinc) must be sourced separately and fitted last.

Maintenance and protection

Raw fir outdoors requires treatment before installation. A minimum of two coats of microporous wood stain or exterior wood saturator, applied before fitting. Renew every 2 to 3 years on accessible parts (underside of rafters, brackets). The tile or slate roofing protects the upper faces from direct rain - treat the exposed undersides as a priority.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a single-pitch and a double-pitch canopy?

A single-pitch canopy has a roof sloping in one direction, fixed to the wall at the top. A double-pitch canopy has two symmetrical spans meeting at a central ridge, like a small gabled roof. The double-pitch model is more architectural and integrates better with traditional facades. It requires a slightly more complex assembly but can be pre-assembled on the ground before lifting.

Can tiles be fitted on the JONCIN canopy?

Yes, that is the intended use. The solid fir structure - purlins, tie beams and rafters - is dimensioned to receive a covering of mechanical tiles or slates. Tiles are not included in the kit. Check that the pitch of both spans is compatible with the tile type chosen (generally a minimum of 30 degrees for mechanical tiles).

Are the 190x80 cm dimensions suited to my front door?

The 190 cm length provides a 45 cm overhang on each side of a standard 100 cm door, or 25 cm on each side of a 140 cm door. The 80 cm depth covers the area in front of the door where visitors stand. If your door is wider or you require a greater depth, consult our made-to-measure model.

How do I assemble the JONCIN kit?

The kit is assembled in two stages: framework assembly on the ground (kingposts, tie beams, rafters using supplied dowels and screws, wood glue not included), then lifting and fixing the brackets to the facade. Instructions are provided with the kit. Two people are required for lifting. Estimated duration: 4 to 6 hours depending on experience.

Should the fir be treated before installation?

Yes, absolutely. Raw fir is not resistant to moisture outdoors without protection. Apply a microporous wood stain or saturator to all faces before assembly - including notches and hidden faces once assembled. Without treatment, the wood deteriorates within a few seasons. Renew the protection every 2 to 3 years.

Can the JONCIN canopy be painted to match the facade colour?

Yes. The wood is delivered raw, without primer. Opaque paint, tinted wood stain or saturator can all be applied. For a covering paint, use a bonding primer on raw fir. Apply before assembly to treat all faces, then touch up the joints after fitting if necessary.
