Solid Wood Moulded Slat H 95cm Section 95x18mm – 4 Species for Interior Balustrade
This solid wood moulded slat measures 95 cm in height with a section of 95x18 mm. Its moulded profile on the face — slightly rounded and grooved — gives it a more elaborate decorative character than the flat straight slat, while retaining the rigidity of a full 95mm wide section. It is available in fir, pine, douglas fir or beech and pairs with the 18mm groove bottom rails Solid wood bottom rail and the 70x70mm posts in the WoodUp range.
The spacing between slats must not exceed 11 cm in accordance with standard NF P01-012. Sold individually, it allows you to compose the infill of a bespoke balustrade. The moulded slat is suitable for both interior balustrades (all species) and exterior balustrades with appropriate treatment (douglas fir mainly). Supplied raw, untreated.

Installation advice
Slat calculation: Over 2 metres with 95mm slats at 11cm spacing: 2000 ÷ (95 + 110) = 9.75 → 10 slats. Check: (2000 − 10x95) ÷ 11 spaces = 95.4mm — compliant ≤ 11cm. Over 1 metre: 1000 ÷ 205 = 4.87 → 5 slats, actual spacing (1000 − 5x95) ÷ 6 = 87mm — compliant.
Installation: Insert the slats into the groove of the bottom rail (depth 15mm). The moulded profile faces outward — orient all slats in the same direction for a consistent finish. Space the slats evenly before final fixing of the handrail. Apply the finish before installation to easily cover the moulded profile on the face and the edges.
Maintenance and protection
The moulded profile slightly accumulates dust in its grooves — cleaning with a soft brush once or twice a year is sufficient. Indoors, use a varnish or oil-wax. In sheltered outdoor conditions (douglas fir only), use a stain or exterior oil to be renewed every 2 years. Fir, pine and beech are not suitable for direct outdoor exposure.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the moulded slat (Solid wood moulded slat) and the straight slat (Straight balustrade slat 95cm)?
The straight slat (Straight balustrade slat 95cm) has a perfectly smooth flat face. The moulded slat (Solid wood moulded slat) has a worked profile on the face (slightly rounded with a decorative groove) which gives a more elaborate appearance, typical of classical or Haussmann-style balustrades. Both have the same section (95x18mm) and the same height (95cm) — the choice is purely aesthetic. Both fit into the same 18mm groove bottom rails.
Can the douglas fir moulded slat be used in exposed outdoor conditions?
Douglas fir used outdoors in exposed conditions naturally resists better than fir or pine, but a moulded profile accumulates moisture in its grooves more than a flat face. For exposed outdoor use with this profile, apply an exterior saturating oil before installation, working it well into the profile recesses, and reapply every year. In the long term, a flat straight slat is easier to maintain in exposed outdoor conditions.
Can moulded slats and straight slats be mixed in the same balustrade?
Yes, technically. Both have the same section (95x18mm) and fit into the same bottom rails. Aesthetically, mixing them creates a relief effect — all moulded faces outward and all flat faces inward, for example. This is a deliberate decorative option. Simply ensure that the spacing between each slat remains ≤ 11cm regardless of the combination.
Can this moulded profile be painted easily?
Yes. Fine-grained species (beech, pine) paint very well. Apply paint with a fine brush to cover the moulded profile on the face — a foam roller does not cover the recesses sufficiently. Two coats of satin acrylic paint over a primer give a clean result. Beech offers the best finish on worked profiles thanks to its very tight and uniform grain.
