ARVERNE Single-Slope Fir Postbox Roof
Postbox rain protection: the single-slope ARVERNE roof is made entirely of solid fir, with a covering of wooden boards.
Its single slope directs water to one side. Suitable for flat-topped standard postboxes 302 mm wide and 410 mm deep. Natural wood appearance, with no metal or bitumen.
No-drill installation: glue it to the top of the postbox. The fir is supplied untreated and must be protected with exterior woodstain or wood saturator before installation.
Postbox rain protection: single-slope fir roof
The ARVERNE roof protects a postbox from rain with a covering of solid fir boards. It is the only roof in the range made entirely of wood, with no zinc or shingles.
It fits standard-sized postboxes measuring W. 302 x H. 300 x D. 410 mm. It is glued to the top of the postbox without drilling. Its single slope directs water to one side.
The fir is supplied untreated. Because the roof covering is also wood, it is essential to protect it with an exterior woodstain or wood saturator before installation and renew the protection afterwards.

Choosing the right postbox protection
A wooden roof needs more maintenance than a zinc or bitumen-shingle roof because the surface exposed to rain is itself made of wood. If you do not want to renew a finish, consider the OCEANE zinc roof or the LIMAGNE shingle roof.
Check your postbox dimensions too: 302 mm wide and 410 mm deep, with a flat top. A postbox recessed into a wall or with a domed top is not suitable.
Installation tips
Before installation: apply two coats of exterior woodstain or wood saturator to all sides of the roof, including the edges and undersides of the boards. Allow to dry between coats.
Gluing: clean and degrease the top of the postbox. Apply an exterior adhesive compatible with the postbox material, then centre the roof and hold it in place for the drying time specified by the adhesive manufacturer.
Positioning: water runs off to one side. Check that it will not fall onto a walkway or door.
Care and protection
Without protection, fir exposed to rain turns grey and splits more quickly. Inspect the roof each year and reapply woodstain or wood saturator as soon as the wood starts to turn grey or water no longer beads on its surface. Light sanding before the new coat helps it adhere.
Frequently asked questions
How do I protect a postbox from rain?
The simplest option is to fit a roof to the postbox. The ARVERNE roof is glued to the top of a standard-sized postbox and directs water to the side, reducing runoff over the door and letter slot.
Is the ARVERNE roof treated?
No, it is supplied in untreated fir. Apply an exterior woodstain or wood saturator to all sides before installation, then renew the protection as soon as the wood starts to turn grey.
Which postboxes are compatible with this roof?
The roof is designed for standard-sized postboxes measuring W. 302 x H. 300 x D. 410 mm, with a flat top for gluing. Recessed postboxes or those with a rounded top are not suitable.
Wood, zinc or shingle roof: which should I choose?
Wood has the most natural appearance but needs regular woodstain treatment. Zinc (the OCEANE roof) and bitumen shingles (the LIMAGNE roof) protect without maintenance to the roof covering: only their fir structures need woodstain treatment.
Do I need to drill into the postbox to attach the roof?
No. The roof is glued to the top of the postbox using an exterior adhesive suitable for the postbox material.
