Beech Cheese Keeper 22x25x19cm – Natural Preservation with Anti-Insect Grille
This table cheese keeper in solid beech measures 22x25x19 cm and allows cheeses to be stored at room temperature, protected from insects and in optimal ventilation conditions. Its anti-insect aluminium grille protects the cheeses while allowing air to circulate freely — an essential condition for ripening and storage at room temperature. Its 2 levels allow hard cheeses to be separated from soft or blue-veined cheeses.
Unlike refrigerator storage, which dries out cheeses and halts their ripening, this cheese keeper maintains the ideal conditions for cheeses to continue developing their aromas naturally.

Storage tips
Place the cheese keeper in a cool spot away from direct sunlight — a temperature between 10 and 15°C is ideal. Avoid proximity to heat sources (radiator, oven) or strongly scented items (onions, garlic) which can alter the aromas of the cheeses.
For soft cheeses (camembert, brie, munster), wrap them in their original paper before placing them in the cheese keeper — this limits drying out of the rind. Hard cheeses (comté, emmental, beaufort) keep very well unwrapped in the cheese keeper, with their protective rind intact.
Maintenance
Wipe the inside with a damp cloth after each use. To eliminate persistent odours (washed-rind cheeses, blue cheeses), rub the inner walls with half a lemon then wipe dry. Do not immerse in water or put in the dishwasher. The beech can be lightly oiled with food-grade oil once a year to maintain its natural appearance.
WoodUp Tip
To optimise preservation, turn soft cheeses every 2 days — this prevents the underside from sticking and ensures even ripening. A sheet of cheese wrapping paper placed on the bottom shelf limits residue and makes cleaning easier.
Good to know before buying: the cheese keeper is suitable for short-term storage (a few days) at room temperature. For extended ripening (several weeks), a cheese cave or ventilated cellar at 10-12°C provides better conditions.
Frequently asked questions
How many cheeses can be stored in this 22x25cm cheese keeper?
With its 2 levels of 22x25cm each, this cheese keeper can accommodate 4 to 6 portions of cheese depending on their size — for example 2 whole camemberts, or an assortment of 4 to 6 small cheeses. For a family that consumes a wide variety of cheeses, the beech larder offers more space.
Is beech flavour-neutral and odour-free for cheeses?
Yes. Beech is a very fine-grained wood, low in porosity and naturally flavour-neutral. It has no perceptible scent of its own and transfers no taste or smell to food. These are the reasons it is commonly used in kitchen utensils and food-contact applications.
Does this cheese keeper protect against flies and gnats?
Yes. The aluminium grille protects against common flying insects (flies, gnats, fruit flies). It does not form a hermetic barrier against very small insects or mites — in such cases, refrigerator storage remains preferable.
What is the difference between this cheese keeper and the beech larder?
The 22x25x19cm cheese keeper is a compact table-top format, intended for 4 to 6 cheeses on a daily basis. The beech larder is a larger-capacity piece of furniture (several sizes available) with hinged doors, intended to store fruit, vegetables and charcuterie as well. For exclusively cheese-keeping use on the table, the cheese keeper is sufficient.
Can this cheese keeper be oiled with a food-grade oil?
Yes. A light coat of linseed oil or neutral food-grade oil (sunflower, grape seed) applied once or twice a year keeps the beech hydrated and makes cleaning easier. Use exclusively food-grade oils — industrial finishing oils are not suitable for food contact.
