Rustic oak three-ply panel – made to measure to the nearest millimetre

WoodUp’s rustic oak three-ply panel is made from rustic oak / aged oak three-ply wood (3 cold-glued layers, with the centre layer cross-laid at 90°) and is PEFC certified. It is cut and machined to order to your exact specifications: 10 to 300 cm long and 10 to 120 cm wide, to the nearest millimetre. The rustic oak three-ply panel (also called aged oak) combines the cross-layered structure of three-ply wood with rustic-grade oak: more knots, more pronounced wood grain and slight variations in colour are permitted. This more distinctive, natural appearance is sought after for projects with an authentic feel. The centre layer, cross-laid at 90°, provides high mechanical strength. The panel is supplied with the finish chosen in the configurator: unfinished and sanded, oiled or varnished. A protective finish is recommended before use if you choose the unfinished, sanded option.

Advice on use and finishing

If you choose the unfinished, sanded option, apply a protective finish before use. For a surface subject to wear, a polyurethane floor varnish (2 to 3 coats) provides the best resistance. For a natural matt look, a hard oil penetrates the fibres and nourishes the wood; reapply every 1 to 2 years, depending on use. Finish every face before installation, including those that will be inaccessible afterwards.

Before working with the panel, store it flat in the room where it will be used for 48 to 72 hours so it can acclimatise to the ambient humidity.

Before ordering: rustic grade means knots, reaction wood and slight variations in colour are an integral part of the panel’s appearance. They are not defects, but sought-after aesthetic features. Oak tannins react with iron: use only stainless-steel or brass-plated screws. A finish must be applied before installation; allow it to dry for 10 days after application.

What finish should I apply to this panel?

Are rustic oak and aged oak the same product?

Yes. They are two names for the same panel and grade: oak with a more distinctive appearance, knots and pronounced grain, valued for its authentic character. WoodUp uses both terms depending on the context, but the product supplied is identical.

Is rustic grade less strong than standard grade?

No. The rustic grade affects only the surface appearance (knots and variations in colour). The three-ply panel retains the same mechanical strength, thanks to its cross-layered construction. It is an aesthetic choice, not a compromise on structural quality.
