Installation advice
Turned profiles are more delicate to assemble than straight sections — pre-drilling is essential to avoid splitting the wood in the turned grooves. Apply the finish before assembly without fail: once the balusters are in place, it is very difficult to finish the grooves of the turned profile properly. Two coats of oil-wax or varnish applied with a fine brush before assembly ensure uniform protection.
Maintenance and protection
Turned profiles accumulate dust in their grooves — an annual clean with a soft brush is sufficient. Varnish for heavily used staircases, oil-wax for less frequently used mezzanines. Reapply a light coat of varnish every 5 to 7 years. For a white lacquered finish, opt for beech: its fine, uniform grain gives the best results with a gloss polyurethane lacquer.
