Individual Ellipsis Post in Anodised Aluminium - Pre-assembled with Rail Brackets and Base Shoe

This individual post from the Ellipsis range is a structural element in anodised aluminium designed to complement or customise an existing Ellipsis balustrade. It is delivered pre-assembled: the rail brackets, handrail bracket and base shoe are already in place on the post - it fixes directly to the floor without any prior assembly. It includes 5 round rail brackets, a Ø50mm handrail bracket and its base shoe.

This post is used primarily in two cases: adding an intermediate post on a long span to reinforce the rigidity of the assembly, or freely constructing a balustrade entirely piece by piece by combining individual posts, rails and handrail ordered separately. Available in gloss black and gloss stainless steel to remain consistent with the rest of the Ellipsis installation.

Installation tips

Fix the base shoe to the floor with fixings suited to the substrate (not included) before inserting the rails. Check the post is vertical using a spirit level on both axes before finally tightening the base shoe. Then insert the Ø16mm rails into the 5 brackets, then connect the handrail into the Ø50mm bracket. If this post is added in an intermediate position on an existing span, connect the rails along their length using Ø16mm Ellipsis rail connectors on both sides of the post.

Maintenance and protection

Clean with soapy water annually. Check the tightening of the base shoe and rail brackets once a year - thermal expansion outdoors can slightly loosen screwed assemblies. Rinse with fresh water in marine environments after episodes of salt spray.

What to know before purchasing: this individual post is delivered pre-assembled with its integrated rail brackets — it cannot be used with rails from the QUADRUM range. Ensure the finish ordered (matt black or brushed stainless steel) matches exactly that of your existing ELLIPSIS balustrade: the two finishes cannot be visually mixed. This post is added to an existing installation — it cannot constitute a functional balustrade on its own without a starter kit.

Yes. The individual Ellipsis post is dimensionally identical to the posts in the starter and extension kits. It can replace a damaged post or serve as an additional intermediate post on a long span. The finish must match that of the existing kit (gloss black or gloss stainless steel) to ensure visual consistency.

What spacing should Ellipsis posts be placed at?

The Ellipsis system is designed for modules of 100cm (extension kit) and 120cm (starter kit). If you are adding an intermediate post, place it in the middle of the relevant span. For a 200cm span without an intermediate post, the rigidity is sufficient if the two end posts are correctly fixed. Beyond 200cm without an intermediate post, it is advisable to add one to limit rail deflection under lateral load.

Does the base shoe allow projecting fixing (lateral fixing onto a beam)?

The base shoe supplied is designed for standard floor fixing (concrete slab or floor). For lateral fixing onto a beam, stair stringer or wall, a specific lateral fixing plate is required - not included with this product. Contact WoodUp to check the fixing options available for your configuration.

How many individual posts are needed to build a 3m balustrade from scratch?

For a fully piece-by-piece installation over 3m, you need a minimum of 4 posts: one at each end and two intermediate posts (spacing ~1m). Then add Ø16mm round rails in the appropriate length, the handrail, and the junction connectors between rails. This bespoke approach is more complex than the kits - it is suited to atypical configurations where standard kits do not fit.

Is this Ellipsis post suitable for an outdoor balustrade?

Yes, anodised aluminium is suited to outdoor exposure without any additional treatment. The Ellipsis post is designed for indoor and outdoor use. The floor fixing shoe is made of aluminium: check the compatibility of the fixing hardware with your substrate (stainless steel recommended in coastal environments). Under normal use, no particular maintenance is required beyond occasional rinsing.
