Installation advice
The absence of a gutter means that rainwater drains freely on the sides of the canopy. Plan for this drainage according to your façade configuration: check that it does not fall onto a frequently used pathway or an adjacent window. The centre spacing of 80 cm must be measured precisely before drilling.
The fixing wall must be load-bearing (concrete, solid brick, breeze block). Two people recommended for installation. Use wall plugs appropriate for the wall material. Ensure a perfect level so that the canopy is straight once fitted.
Maintenance and protection
Anodised or lacquered aluminium requires no special treatment after installation. Cleaning 1 to 2 times a year with clean water and mild soap is sufficient to maintain the appearance of the structure. Avoid abrasive products or solvent-based products that could scratch the lacquer or anodised coating.
The cellular polycarbonate panel can be cleaned with a soft damp cloth or a non-abrasive sponge. Avoid using a pressure washer directly on the panel to prevent forcing the seals. For limescale deposits, use diluted white vinegar. The panel is UV-resistant but may slightly yellow after 10 to 15 years of direct exposure — this is normal and does not affect its mechanical properties.
Frequently asked questions
Why choose a canopy without a gutter such as the ONCINS?
A canopy without a gutter is less prone to blockages from leaves and debris. Its profile is also visually cleaner. In return, water drains freely on the sides — which is suitable for open façades where this drainage does not cause a problem. If you have a nearby side window or frequent passage on the sides, a canopy with a gutter will be more appropriate.
What is the difference between the ONCINS canopy and the ECHARMEAUX canopy in the retro range?
Both belong to the Woodup retro range, but the ONCINS (without gutter) has a more vintage plunging profile and is available in two more compact sizes (120x55 and 150x85 cm). The ECHARMEAUX (120x90 and 160x90 cm) is deeper and features an integrated gutter for controlled drainage. Choose the ONCINS for the raw vintage aesthetic, the ECHARMEAUX for more functional protection.
Is the black colour available immediately or to order?
The black colour is available to order with a potentially longer delivery lead time than the white, which is available in stock. Contact WoodUp before ordering to find out the exact lead time depending on supplier availability.
Is the ONCINS canopy 120x55 cm suitable for a 90 cm wide door?
The 120 cm wide version overhangs by approximately 15 cm on each side of a 90 cm door — limited lateral protection. If your door is 90 cm or wider, the 150 x 85 cm version offers better coverage with 30 cm of overhang on each side and a greater depth (85 cm vs 55 cm).
Is a load-bearing wall required to fix the ONCINS canopy?
Yes, the fixing wall must be load-bearing and in good condition. Never fix into thermal insulation, plaster alone or lightweight cladding without checking the resistance of the substrate. Use wall plugs appropriate for the material: impact plugs for concrete, expansion plugs for breeze block, specialist plugs for hollow brick.
