Installation tips
First, install the supporting posts spaced 200 cm apart (centre to centre), anchored to a minimum of 40 cm into the ground for a 60 cm fence height. Assemble the panel by fixing the boards to the rails. Screw the assembled panel onto the posts. On soft ground, use concrete pads or anchor brackets for optimal post stability. Apply an annual exterior oil to preserve the natural colour of the Douglas fir.
Maintenance and protection
Douglas fir turns grey outdoors in 6 to 12 months — this greying is normal and does not affect the strength of the timber. To maintain the pinkish-brown colour, apply a Douglas fir exterior oil or wood stain once a year. The included fixings should be stainless steel to avoid rust marks. Check the posts annually at their base.
WoodUp Tip
What to know before buying: this kit includes boards, rails and fixings, but not the posts, which should be planned according to your installation. Massif Central Douglas fir is rated natural durability class 3, which means no mandatory chemical treatment is required; an exterior oil or wood stain extends the life of the original colour and limits the natural greying of timber exposed to UV.
Frequently asked questions
Is this kit suitable for enclosing a vegetable garden?
Yes. The 60 cm height and 200 cm length are ideal for marking the boundary of a vegetable garden or garden. Several kits can be aligned to cover the desired perimeter.
Can this kit be assembled without posts if fixed directly onto a wall?
Yes. The assembled panel can be screwed directly onto a wall or existing structure using fixings suited to the surface (concrete anchors, wood screws depending on the wall).
Does Douglas fir resist indirect contact with the ground (damp grass)?
Yes. Its class 3 durability allows it to resist ambient moisture and ground splashes. However, avoid direct contact with soil along the length of the rails to prevent any premature deterioration.
What is the difference between this 60 cm kit and the 95 cm kit?
Only the height. The 95 cm kit offers a more pronounced visual separation and greater protection against small animals. The composition and materials are identical.
Is this Douglas fir kit more expensive than the equivalent fir kit?
Generally yes, Douglas fir is more expensive than fir due to its superior natural durability. However, the savings made on maintenance and longevity often offset the initial difference.
