The EVIRES GH 26 is a high-ceiling loft ladder for rooms with ceilings up to 310 cm high. Its metal ladder is 39 cm wide, has 12 treads and folds into a wooden frame.

How to choose the right loft ladder

The high-ceiling AUBRAC models require a frame at least 120 cm long. The EVIRES GH fits a ceiling opening as small as 80 x 60 cm, useful in an older house where the joists limit the size of the opening.

The trade-off is that it needs plenty of floor space: 205 or 220 cm for the unfolded ladder and up to 265 cm of clearance. Measure the room before ordering.

Installation advice

Ceiling opening: prepare an opening to fit the chosen frame, allowing approximately 5 mm around the edge. Check that there is at least 135 mm of clear height above the ceiling to accommodate the frame.

Fixing: secure the frame to the floor structure (joists and trimming joists) with screws suitable for the material, following the instructions. Check that the frame is square before fully tightening the screws: a twisted frame will prevent the hatch from closing properly.

Adjustment: unfold the ladder, measure the ceiling height and cut the final section so that it rests flat on the floor. Fit the handrail. Finally, connect the loft insulation around the frame to prevent thermal bridging.

Care and protection

Once a year, check that the screws are tight, inspect the joints between the sections and make sure the hatch-opening mechanism works properly. Lubricate the mechanisms if opening becomes stiff, and dust the treads.

The hatch can be painted to match the ceiling. Take care not to block the seal between the hatch and frame, which provides the airtight barrier.
