The AULAC space-saving staircase in solid fir is designed to provide access between levels where space is limited. Supplied as a kit, it fits between a lower level and a mezzanine or intermediate floor and can be adjusted precisely to the floor-to-floor height. Its metal pivot system, built into the stringers, lets you adjust the pitch without changing the angle of the treads: they remain horizontal whatever pitch you choose. Available in 65 cm or 70 cm widths, with or without a handrail.
Unlike a standard straight staircase, the AULAC suits a wide range of layouts: varying floor-to-floor heights, limited horizontal space and compact stairwell openings. The tread section is 145 × 28 mm. The floor space required and the size of the stairwell opening depend on the pitch set during installation. For the opening, allow the overall staircase width plus 2 cm, and a length corresponding to the horizontal space required at the chosen pitch.

Installation advice
The pitch is adjusted using the metal pivots built into the stringers, following the procedure detailed in the supplied instructions. The more horizontal space available, the gentler the pitch and the more comfortable the stairs are to climb. With less space, the pitch will be steeper. Installation is still technically possible, but climbing the stairs becomes less comfortable when carrying items.
Secure the staircase to the floor and upper floor using fixings suitable for each material. After adjusting the pitch, check that it is plumb and level before securing it permanently. If a handrail is included, fit it during assembly.
Care and protection
After installation is complete, apply a finish suited to its use: oil, indoor varnish or paint. For a space-saving staircase used as a low-traffic secondary access route, a hardwax oil is sufficient. For daily use, a two-coat floor varnish is recommended. For routine cleaning, use a dry or slightly damp cloth.

The AULAC space-saving staircase is primarily a practical means of access; it is not designed to replace a main staircase. Its steeper pitch makes it less comfortable than a standard staircase for frequent use, particularly when descending with a load. For intensive daily use by the whole family, the FAGEOLE, with its thicker components and more stable adjustment, or a compact quarter-turn staircase is more suitable.
Before you buy: the riser height and tread going are not fixed; they depend on the pitch set during installation. The greater the floor-to-floor height and the more limited the available horizontal space, the higher the risers will be. These measurements cannot be provided in advance without knowing the exact layout of your installation site.
Frequently asked questions
How does pitch adjustment using metal pivots work?
The AULAC’s stringers have built-in metal pivots on which the treads are mounted. These allow the stringers to rotate relative to the treads: tilting the stringers changes the staircase’s pitch while the treads remain horizontal. To set the pitch, adjust the angle of the stringers to suit the height to be reached and the available horizontal space, then lock the pivots in position.
What floor-to-floor heights can the AULAC accommodate?
The AULAC accommodates a wide range of floor-to-floor heights thanks to its adjustment system. It can be trimmed at the top or bottom. For heights below 220 cm, the stringers must be trimmed. For heights above 290 cm, contact WoodUp customer service to check feasibility for your layout.
What is the difference between the AULAC and the BASSEYRE?
The AULAC is a space-saving staircase whose pitch can be adjusted using pivots, so the riser height and tread going can be adapted to your layout. The BASSEYRE is a straight staircase with fixed treads (20.5 cm riser height, 145 × 28 mm tread section). It requires 222 cm of horizontal space for a height of 287 cm: less flexible, but simpler to plan for.
Is the AULAC suitable for a loft with a 2.20 m ceiling height?
Yes. For a floor-to-floor height of 220 cm, the AULAC can be trimmed and adjusted to suit this layout. Check that there is enough horizontal space for an acceptable pitch. At this height, at least 120 cm of horizontal space is recommended for comfortable use.
Can the AULAC be installed without a handrail and have one added later?
A handrail can be added to this space-saving staircase after assembly. On the upper quarter-turn staircases (NERONNE, BAVAT), the handrail cannot be reversed and its position depends on the orientation ordered; see the relevant model’s product page for specific requirements. Before buying, check that your chosen handrail is compatible with the version and width of the AULAC ordered.
Which space-saving staircase should you choose: AULAC, NUGERE or BASSEYRE?
The AULAC, with adjustable pivots, is the most flexible option when height or available horizontal space is limited. The NUGERE, with alternating treads, requires the least horizontal space (151 cm), but you must alternate your feet as you climb. The BASSEYRE has fixed dimensions and is the simplest to plan for, provided the height and available horizontal space exactly match its standard dimensions.
