AULAC Miller's Staircase Kit in Fir – Adjustable and Space-Saving
The AULAC solid fir miller's staircase is designed to provide vertical access in a restricted space. Delivered as a kit, it is installed between a lower level and a mezzanine or intermediate floor, with precise adjustment to the floor-to-floor height. Its metal pivot system integrated into the stringers allows the slope to be adjusted without changing the angle of the treads. You thus maintain horizontal treads, even with variations in incline. Trimmable at the top or bottom depending on the configuration, this solid wood staircase is a suitable solution for lofts, attics and utility rooms. Available in 65 cm or 70 cm width, with or without balustrade, it meets space constraints while ensuring functional access.
Main features
| Specification | Description |
|---|---|
| Product type | Straight miller's staircase kit |
| Material | Planed solid fir |
| Number of treads | 13 treads |
| Tread dimensions | 59.5 × 14.5 × 2.8 cm (65 cm width) or 64.5 × 14.5 × 2.8 cm (70 cm width) |
| Stringer length | 360 cm (trimmable depending on configuration) |
| Adjustable floor-to-floor height | The floor-to-floor height depends on the slope chosen during installation. Thanks to the metal pivot system, the incline of the staircase can be adjusted while keeping the treads horizontal. The height can be adapted by adjusting the slope and trimming the stringers if necessary. |
| Overall width | 65 cm or 70 cm (+ 4.5 cm with balustrade) |
| Installation system | Metal pivots fixed into the stringers, individually adjustable |
| Use | Indoor use only |
| Finish | Raw wood to be treated |
| Compatibility | Rail balustrade as an option, wood finishing products |
Key features
- Space-saving staircase suitable for mezzanines and lofts.
- Metal pivot system integrated into the stringers.
- Slope adjustment without altering the horizontality of the treads.
- Trimmable stringers for adjustment to floor-to-floor height.
- Delivered as a kit with fixings and assembly plan.
Installation advice
- Measure the floor-to-floor height and available clearance precisely.
- Position the stringers and adjust their length if necessary (trim at the top or bottom).
- Fix the metal pivots into the stringers according to the supplied plan.
- Adjust each pivot individually to keep the treads perfectly horizontal.
- If the slope is steeper (reduced clearance), trim the stringers and remove one or two treads if necessary.
- Anchor the staircase securely to the floor and upper level using fixings appropriate to the support.
How the pivot system works
The AULAC staircase is designed with a system of metal pivots fixed into the stringers. This principle allows the staircase incline to be adapted to the configuration of the space.
- If the slope is shallower (lower floor-to-floor height or greater clearance), the treads remain horizontal thanks to individual pivot adjustment, without trimming the stringers.
- If the slope is steeper (insufficient clearance), the stringers can be trimmed to adjust the length. It is also possible to remove one or two treads depending on the available height.
The treads are screwed onto metal pivots fixed into the stringers. Adjusting the pivots allows the slope of the staircase to be adapted to the available space.

Maintenance and protection
Solid fir is intended for indoor use (use class 1). It must be protected against moisture and surface wear. Apply a suitable oil, varnish or wood stain after installation. Regular maintenance helps preserve the dimensional stability and surface condition of the wood.
FAQ – AULAC fir miller's staircase
How to install the AULAC fir miller's staircase?
Install the stringers according to the measured floor-to-floor height. Adjust the length if necessary, fix the metal pivots then adjust each tread so that it remains horizontal. Finish by anchoring at the floor and upper level.
What is the lifespan of the AULAC staircase?
For indoor use with an appropriate finish, a solid fir staircase can last for several decades. Durability depends on maintenance and humidity conditions.
Is the AULAC staircase compatible with a mezzanine?
Yes. Its straight, trimmable design allows installation on a mezzanine, attic or intermediate floor, provided the anchoring complies with the support.
What is the best miller's staircase for a small space?
A straight model, 65 cm or 70 cm wide, with adjustable slope like the AULAC, is suitable for confined spaces. The pivot system allows the incline to be adapted without altering the tread structure.
Why choose the AULAC staircase over a fixed model?
Unlike a fixed-angle staircase, the AULAC allows slope adjustment thanks to the metal pivots. This design makes it easy to adapt to different heights and configurations without bespoke manufacturing.
