The BASSEYRE straight staircase in solid natural fir is designed for indoor spaces needing straightforward, space-saving access. It is particularly suitable where floor space is limited but the floor-to-floor height is substantial, up to 287 cm. The BASSEYRE staircase has a 222 cm floor run, giving it a fairly steep pitch – expect usable access, but a steeper climb than with a standard staircase.
Available in a 65 cm width (or 80 cm, depending on the version), with or without a handrail. The tread section is 145 × 28 mm – a compact section suited to space-saving staircases, slimmer than that of a traditional staircase. Supplied as a kit with 13 treads. For indoor use only – untreated fir requiring a finish after installation.

Installation advice
Check the floor-to-floor height (287 cm maximum) and available floor run (222 cm minimum) before unpacking the kit. The BASSEYRE staircase is steeper than a standard staircase – allow enough space at the foot to go up and down without obstruction when carrying items. Secure it firmly to the floor and upper floor structure. Apply a protective finish before use.
Care and protection
Apply an interior finish (oil, varnish or paint) after installation. Unprotected unfinished fir absorbs dirt quickly. For a lightly used service staircase, a hardwax oil is sufficient. Clean with a dry or damp cloth.

Its steep pitch (a 222 cm run for a 287 cm height) makes it harder to descend than to climb, particularly when carrying items. For everyday use, the AULAC model with adjustable pivots offers more flexibility in the pitch.
Before you buy: the required stairwell opening varies by version. For the 65 cm staircase without a handrail, allow 65 cm in width. With a handrail, allow 67 cm (65 cm version) or 82 cm (80 cm version). The opening must be 222 cm long in every case.
Frequently asked questions
Can the BASSEYRE staircase be cut to size?
Yes. If your floor-to-floor height is less than 287 cm, the stringers can be cut to size. Refer to the instructions and cutting chart supplied with the kit. For a height of 260 cm, for example, approximately 27 cm would need to be cut off, slightly changing the riser height.
Which width is best – 65 cm or 80 cm?
The 65 cm width is sufficient for occasional access to a mezzanine or loft. The 80 cm width provides more room to pass and carry items. If your stairwell opening allows it, the 80 cm version is recommended for more frequent use.
What is the difference between the BASSEYRE and the AULAC?
The BASSEYRE has fixed treads and a set floor run (222 cm for a 287 cm height), making it straightforward to plan for. The AULAC has pivot-adjustable treads, offering more flexibility when the height or available run does not exactly match standard dimensions. Both have the same tread section (145 × 28 mm) and number of treads (13).
Can the BASSEYRE be used outdoors under cover?
No. Untreated fir is a class 1 timber and is not suitable for outdoor use, even under cover. For outdoor access to a mezzanine or loft, the FANLO model in Douglas fir or larch is designed for outdoor use.
Is the handrail included or optional?
The handrail is optional on the BASSEYRE – it is available with or without one, depending on the version ordered. If you order it with a handrail, check that the stairwell opening accommodates the full width including the handrail (add 2 cm to the overall width).
