FAGEOLE Loft Ladder - Adjustable Kit 220-300 cm, Fir, Beech or Oak, 14 Treads
The FAGEOLE loft ladder is delivered as a kit for assembly tailored to your exact configuration. Its height is adaptable from 220 to 300 cm thanks to its cuttable stringers and its pivot-adjustable tread system - the treads remain horizontal regardless of the angle set. It is available in 3 timber species: fir, glued laminated beech and glued laminated oak, and in 4 overall widths: 60, 70, 80 or 90 cm, to be chosen at the time of ordering. Unlike the height, which is continuously adjustable, the width corresponds to one fixed version among these 4 options.
The tread section is thicker than on economy models: 195x34 mm in fir and 190x30 mm in beech and oak - giving it better wear resistance and less deflection under load. The staircase is delivered in 2 parcels (parcel 1: stringers / parcel 2: treads) and does not include a handrail - to be ordered separately.

Packaging
- ✓ Parcel 1: Stringers
- ✓ Parcel 2: Treads
Key points
- ✓ Thick section: 195x34 mm (fir) - superior to economy models (145x28 mm), better wear resistance
- ✓ Height 220-300 cm: very wide adjustment range - covers almost all mezzanine and loft configurations
- ✓ 3 timber species: fir for economy, beech or oak for durability and aesthetics
- ✓ 4 available widths: 60, 70, 80 or 90 cm to adapt the passage comfort to the available space
- ✓ Metal pivots: pitch adjustment without altering the horizontality of the treads
- ✓ 2 parcels: stringers and treads shipped separately - easier handling in confined spaces
Installation advice
The pitch is adjusted by tilting the stringers relative to the treads via the metal pivots. The greater the available run, the gentler the pitch. Adjust and lock the pivots before final fixing. Check the horizontality of each tread with a spirit level after adjustment.
Oak stringers are particularly heavy - plan for two people for installation. Always pre-drill before screwing into oak or beech. Fix the staircase to the floor and upper landing with fixings appropriate to the substrate.
Maintenance and protection
Apply an appropriate finish for the chosen timber species before first use. On raw fir (195x34 mm), an oil-wax or a 2-coat varnish. On beech or oak, a 2-3 coat staircase varnish is recommended for wear resistance. Routine cleaning with a dry cloth or slightly damp cloth.
WoodUp tip
The FAGEOLE is the best choice in the loft ladder range for more intensive use: its section of 195x34 mm (fir) or 190x30 mm (beech/oak) is significantly thicker than economy models (145x28 mm), which results in less flex under load and better long-term durability. If your use goes beyond occasional access to a mezzanine, investing in the FAGEOLE rather than the AULAC or the BASSEYRE is worthwhile.
Important before purchasing: the handrail is not included. It must be ordered separately and fitted during initial assembly. The 4 available widths (60, 70, 80 or 90 cm) are fixed versions, not to be confused with the height, which is continuously adjustable by cutting the stringers - for frequent load-carrying use, the 80 cm width is recommended.
Frequently asked questions
Which section to choose - 195x34 mm (fir) or 190x30 mm (beech/oak)?
The 195x34 mm fir section is taller (34 mm thick) and more rigid under load than the 190x30 mm beech/oak section. Paradoxically, fir with its thicker section can have a similar stiffness to thinner beech, as bending stiffness depends on the cube of the height. Beech and oak remain denser and more resistant to surface wear. The final choice depends on the desired aesthetic and budget.
How do I calculate the footprint and the stairwell opening for the FAGEOLE?
The footprint depends on the pitch set. For a floor-to-floor height of 280 cm with a comfortable pitch (60° angle), the footprint will be approximately 280/tan(60°) = 162 cm. For a gentler pitch (45°), the footprint reaches 280 cm. Add 2 cm to the chosen width to obtain the minimum stairwell opening width. Contact our customer service for a precise calculation based on your configuration.
Can the FAGEOLE be ordered for a height of 260 cm?
Yes. The adjustment range of 220 to 300 cm easily covers 260 cm. Cutting the stringers and adjusting the pivots allows the staircase to be adapted to this height. Check that the available run is compatible with the desired pitch.
Can the FAGEOLE be used outdoors?
Untreated fir (class 1) is not suitable for outdoor use. Glued laminated beech and oak (class 2) are resistant to indoor hygrometric variations but not to direct outdoor exposure. For outdoor access, the FANLO model in douglas fir or larch is designed for this purpose.
Why is the FAGEOLE delivered in 2 parcels?
The separation of stringers / treads (parcel 1 / parcel 2) makes handling easier in narrow corridors and existing staircases. The stringers are the longest and most cumbersome elements - delivering them separately allows them to be brought up one at a time. Check that access to your site allows handling of pieces of the same length as the stringers before ordering.
Which loft ladder to choose for everyday use - AULAC, BASSEYRE or FAGEOLE?
For everyday use with loads, the FAGEOLE is the obvious choice: thicker section, available in beech or oak for durability, in widths up to 90 cm (4 versions: 60, 70, 80, 90 cm). The AULAC is suitable for moderate use with space constraints. The BASSEYRE is the most economical but has the thinnest section - reserved for occasional access.
Our complementary staircases
