Double Quarter-Turn Staircase Beech or Oak – ROCLES 180×180 Kit Section 220×32 mm
This double quarter-turn staircase in glued laminated beech or oak is designed for interior fittings requiring two successive changes of direction. Its floor footprint of 1800×1800 mm and width of 90 cm place it in the large comfort format. The floor-to-floor height is 285 cm for 14 treads + ½. The 220×32 mm section gives the treads a solid thickness. The recommended stairwell opening is 1800×1800 mm.
Two timber species are available: glued laminated beech (regular grain, light tone) or glued laminated oak (pronounced grain, warmer tone). Sold without handrail: the compatible WoodUp handrail for 180 cm stairs must be ordered separately and installed simultaneously during assembly. Delivered in 4 packages.

Installation advice
Preparation: The stairwell opening must measure 1800×1800 mm minimum. The floor footprint of 1800×1800 mm must be verified in the available space. A minimum of two people is required for handling, particularly for the oak or beech stringers.
Handrail: If a handrail is required, order the compatible WoodUp interior spindle handrail for 180 cm stairs before starting assembly. It must be installed simultaneously with the staircase. It is not possible to fit a handrail on both the exterior and interior sides simultaneously on this model: an additional handrail must be ordered separately if both sides need to be fitted.
Assembly: For a double quarter-turn staircase, assemble the two turning modules first, before the straight flights. Follow strictly the order indicated in the instructions supplied with the kit.
Finishing: Apply the protective treatment before installation to treat hidden faces. On beech or oak, allow 2 to 3 coats of varnish.
Maintenance and protection
Beech and oak are supplied unfinished. Finishing is mandatory before first use.
- Aqua-polyurethane staircase varnish: 2 to 3 coats, renewal every 5 to 7 years
- Oil-wax: natural finish, annual renewal
- Polyurethane varnish: gloss finish and impact resistance
Routine cleaning: slightly damp cloth, pH-neutral product. Recommended humidity: 45 to 65%. Check fixing tightness once a year.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the ROCLES 180×180 and the ROCLES 160×160?
The ROCLES 180×180 is 90 cm wide with a footprint of 1800×1800 mm and a stairwell opening of 1800×1800 mm. The ROCLES 160×160 is 80 cm wide with a footprint of approximately 165×160 cm. The tread section is identical (220×32 mm). The 180×180 is the large comfort format, suited to generous spaces and heavy use.
Can the handrail be installed after assembling the ROCLES 180×180?
Not for the interior handrail: it must be installed at the same time as the staircase. For an exterior-side handrail that can be added later, check available options with the WoodUp customer service team before starting installation.
Should I choose beech or oak for the ROCLES 180×180?
Both species have comparable mechanical strength. Beech has a regular grain and a light, slightly pinkish tone; oak has a more pronounced grain and a warmer tone. The choice depends on the desired aesthetic and consistency with other woodwork. Oak is generally slightly more expensive.
Is a double quarter-turn staircase difficult to assemble?
Assembly is more complex than a straight staircase as it involves two turning modules that must be positioned precisely. The kit instructions detail the assembly sequence step by step. It is strongly advised to carry out a dry assembly before any final fixing, and to have two people on hand.
What stairwell opening is required for the ROCLES 180×180?
The recommended stairwell opening is 1800×1800 mm. This dimension must be verified in your floor before ordering. If your stairwell opening is more constrained, consider the ROCLES 160×160 or contact the WoodUp customer service team for a bespoke staircase.
