Key points

  • Height 95 cm: standard visual separation for gardens and terraces
  • 3 species: Fir, Pine or Douglas depending on durability and budget
  • Sold individually: precise purchase with no surplus
  • Bevelled slat (fir/douglas): rainwater drainage along the edge
  • Compatible with the Woodup range: matching rails and fence kits available

Installation advice

For a 95 cm fence in 91x21 mm section fitted edge to edge: allow 11 slats per linear metre. Pre-drill before screwing — use 4x50 mm stainless steel screws to ensure adequate penetration into the rails. Apply treatment to all faces before installation. Space the rails 40 to 50 cm apart to prevent the slats from bowing over their 95 cm height.

Spacing between slats: the choice of spacing influences both wind resistance and visual effect. A spacing of 10 mm gives an almost solid finish. Between 15 and 20 mm, wind load is reduced — recommended for long runs and exposed areas. Beyond 25 mm, the trellis effect allows light and sight through.

Maintenance and protection

Renew the stain or exterior oil every 2 to 3 years. On untreated Pine and Fir, deterioration accelerates significantly in damp or shaded areas. Douglas turns grey without treatment but remains mechanically stable for several years. Check each spring the lower ends of the slats, which accumulate the most moisture.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between 60 cm and 95 cm slats for a garden fence?

The 60 cm slats are suitable for low fences delimiting a plot without blocking the view. The 95 cm slats offer a more pronounced visual separation and greater privacy, without achieving the full screening of 120 or 175 cm slats.

Can 95 cm slats be combined with 60 cm slats for a decorative effect?

Yes. Alternating different heights creates an irregular picket effect commonly found in English gardens. Plan for a rail at mid-height of the tallest slats to keep them straight.

Can this slat be used for a 95 cm gate?

Yes. The Woodup 100x120 cm gate kit uses 95 cm slats, or you can build your own gate using these slats with rails and a diagonal brace for rigidity.

Is Rounded Pine less resistant than Bevelled Fir?

Both are natural untreated wood of comparable durability. The rounded profile of Pine offers a different decorative appearance but does not affect the mechanical strength of the slat.

How many rails are needed to support 95 cm slats?

A minimum of two rails: one at approximately 10 cm from the bottom and one at 85 cm from the bottom. For areas highly exposed to wind, add a third central rail at 45 cm to stiffen the panel.
