Carefully measure the height and width of the frame before cutting the timber battens. For a standard frame, cut 2 battens to the door height (side uprights) and 1 batten to the width (top crosspiece). Pre-drill the battens before screwing them in to prevent the solid pine from splitting. Fix the side uprights first, then the top crosspiece. You can mitre the joints for a neater finish. Apply a finish (paint or wood stain) after assembly to protect the wood and give the frame a consistent appearance.
The unfinished timber batten can be painted or stained in your chosen colour. For routine care of a painted frame, a slightly damp cloth is sufficient. To match the batten’s colour to the wardrobe doors, opaque paint is the most reliable option: wood stain or clear varnish will show the natural variations in each solid pine board. Check the fixings are tight once a year, especially if changes in the room’s climate cause the wood to move.
For a standard frame (2 uprights + 1 top crosspiece), you need 2 lengths of 210 cm (trimmed to height) and 1 length of 75 cm (trimmed to width). For a height of 260 cm, choose 260 cm lengths for the uprights.

Yes. Unfinished, planed solid pine takes paint well. Sand with 120-grit abrasive, apply a wood primer, then your white satin paint. The planed finish provides a good surface for the paint to adhere to.
Choose the 210 cm length for the side uprights. You can trim it precisely to 205 cm (or your required clear height). The 75 cm length is sufficient for the horizontal crosspiece of a standard 61 to 71 cm opening.
Not necessarily when unfinished: solid pine is a natural material, so each piece has its own colour and grain. For a perfectly uniform appearance, apply the same opaque paint to the batten and the door. With wood stain or clear varnish, slight differences in shade may remain.

The timber batten is useful for trimmable or sliding door leaves installed in an unfinished opening without a door frame: it provides a fixing point for hinges and gives the edges of the opening a finished look. Order it only if the opening does not already have a frame.
