Custom Wooden Spindle Balustrade - Interior Vertical Balustrade in Fir, Beech or Oak

This custom vertical-spindle balustrade is made entirely from solid wood - posts, spindles and handrail in the same species of your choice: fir, beech or oak. The vertical spindle infill gives a clean, timeless look suited to all interior styles from classic to contemporary. The spacing between spindles complies with standard NF P01-012 (≤ 11 cm), making it suitable for families with children.

It is configured to your exact dimensions via the WoodUp configurator and delivered as a pre-cut kit to assemble, with instructions and fixings included. This model is the most versatile in the WoodUp custom range - its clean lines integrate with all configurations of straight staircases, mezzanines or interior landings. This product is made to order to your measurements. Manufacturing lead time: 8 to 10 weeks.

Key points

  • Vertical spindles ≤ 11 cm - landing standard met, suitable for families with children
  • 100% wood - visual uniformity, natural warmth of wood
  • 3 wood species - fir (economical), beech (fine grain), oak (durability)
  • Custom-made - adapts to all lengths and configurations
  • Delivered as a pre-cut kit - assembly accessible with basic tools
  • Timeless style - fits equally well in a contemporary or classic interior

Installation advice

Measure the span to be covered accurately before configuring. This balustrade is delivered to the exact dimensions ordered - a measurement error will require a new manufacturing run. For a staircase, measure the projected horizontal span (not the inclined length of the handrail). Check the plumb of the wall or stringer for side-fixing applications. Apply your chosen finish before assembly to easily cover all faces of the spindles.

Maintenance and protection

The bare wood requires a protective finish before first use. Varnish (2-3 coats) for high-traffic areas, oil-wax for a natural look. Clean with soapy water. Check the tightness of joints annually. Oak handles moisture variations better than fir or beech - preferable for spaces such as glazed extensions or poorly heated rooms.

WoodUp tip

Important before purchasing: this balustrade is custom-made to your measurements — measure the exact span and the centre-to-centre distance of the fixing points before ordering. The usable length of 193cm for a 2m module is due to the post thicknesses at each end: bear this in mind if you are joining several modules together. The spacing between spindles is a maximum of 11cm (NF P01-012). The wood is delivered bare and untreated: apply a finish before installation, particularly in joints and grooves. Manufacturing lead time: approximately 8 weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Is this wooden spindle balustrade suitable for a spiral staircase?

This model is designed for straight staircases and landings with a rectilinear span. For a spiral staircase, the curve of the handrail requires specific manufacturing - contact WoodUp directly with the dimensions and radius of curvature to obtain a custom quote suited to this configuration.

Which wood species should I choose for a light wood interior such as a chalet?

Fir is the most natural species for a chalet interior: a slightly amber golden tone, straight grain, and visible knots that enhance the rustic character. Oiled or matt varnished, it harmonises perfectly with a fir or pine floor. For a more contemporary chalet with a white lacquered finish, beech is preferable thanks to its fine, uniform grain with no knots.

Can this balustrade be ordered with a rounded handrail rather than a square one?

The handrail section options depend on the WoodUp configurator settings at the time of ordering. Check the available options directly on the configurator - handrail profile variants may be offered depending on the species and dimensions. If your requirement is specific, contact WoodUp customer service before finalising your order.

Is the balustrade delivered painted or unfinished?

The balustrade is delivered unfinished and untreated. All components are ready to receive the finish of your choice: paint, stain, oil or varnish. This approach allows you to choose the exact shade to match your interior décor and to apply the product before or after assembly according to your working method.

What is the difference between this model and a standard WoodUp kit?

Standard kits (Fir balustrade kit 2m + 1 post, Fir balustrade kit 1m without post, Beech balustrade kit 2m + 2 posts) are available in fixed lengths (1m or 2m) and can be ordered immediately from stock. This custom-made model adapts to any non-standard length - essential for spans of 1.35m, 2.7m or 3.2m for example. The lead time is longer (made to order) and the unit price is generally higher than standard kits.
