Arlberg Straight Balustrade 100cm - Metal and Beech Handrail for Indoor Staircase
The Arlberg balustrade is a straight model in metal with a solid natural beech handrail, designed for standard straight indoor staircases. Its height of 100 cm complies with French regulations for landing balustrades. The simple, rectilinear design of the Arlberg suits all interior styles - from contemporary to classic - thanks to the warmth of natural wood on a clean metal structure.
The beech handrail is supplied unfinished and untreated. A protective finish is essential before use: untreated beech stains quickly with hand contact and in high-traffic areas. Floor fixing screws are not included as they depend on the type of substrate. Fitting instructions included. Indoor use only.

Installation advice
Apply a protective finish to the beech handrail before installation - varnish (2-3 coats) for a heavily used staircase, oil-wax for moderate traffic. Once the balustrade is in place, access to the underside of the handrail becomes difficult. Adapt the floor fixings to the material of your treads and substrate (not included). Check for plumb and level with a spirit level before final tightening.
Maintenance and protection
Beech handrail: clean with soapy water, reapply a light coat of varnish every 5 to 7 years depending on traffic intensity. Metal structure: dust off, occasional damp clean, no treatment required in a dry indoor environment. Check the tightness of all fixings once a year.
WoodUp tip
Important before purchasing: the natural unfinished beech handrail must be treated before fitting — a staircase varnish offers the best resistance to wear from hands. Apply 2 coats, allowing 24 hours drying time between each, on all faces including the ends. Floor fixing screws are not included: plan for them according to your substrate (timber, concrete or tiling). This model is suitable for standard straight staircases — for a staircase with a corner or landing, a made-to-measure balustrade is more appropriate.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Arlberg balustrade suitable for a staircase with a side string?
The Arlberg is designed for standard floor fixing (fixing via base plate at the bottom of the post). For fixing to a side string, specific side-fixing plates may be required - not included. Contact WoodUp with the exact dimensions and configuration of your staircase to confirm compatibility and the required accessories.
Can the beech handrail be replaced with a stainless steel handrail?
This model is supplied with a beech handrail as standard. For a stainless steel handrail or other materials, consult WoodUp - variants may be available. Alternatively, the all-aluminium Quadrum or Ellipsis ranges offer fully metal configurations with gloss black or gloss stainless steel finishes.
Can this straight balustrade be installed on a spiral staircase?
No. The Arlberg is designed for straight staircases with a rectilinear span. For a spiral staircase, the LUSETTE, OUMENET, ESPINAS or TRIBALE balustrades are specifically adapted to the pitch and geometry of helical staircases.
What is the difference between this Arlberg balustrade and the OUMENET model?
The OUMENET is designed specifically for the CEYSSAT staircase - its connection geometry is adapted to that particular staircase. The Arlberg is a versatile straight model for standard straight staircases, not tied to a specific staircase brand. If your staircase is a CEYSSAT, choose the OUMENET. For any other standard straight staircase, the Arlberg is more suitable.
Is this Arlberg balustrade available in a raking version to follow the slope of a staircase?
This model is designed for installation on a landing (horizontal position). For a raking balustrade following the slope of a straight staircase, contact WoodUp - specific configurations with tiltable posts or fixing plates adapted to the angle of the slope may be available. Please specify the angle of your staircase (in degrees or as a percentage) when making your enquiry.
