The BIVIO 26 is an insulated loft hatch housing a folding ladder with metal side rails and wooden treads. When closed, the 26 mm hatch, including 20 mm of insulation, helps reduce draughts; when open, it provides 12 treads, each 40 cm wide.

It comes in 12 frame sizes, from 110 x 55 to 140 x 70 cm, including 130 x 70 cm. It reaches ceiling heights of up to 280 cm, supports 160 kg and includes a handrail.

How to choose a folding loft ladder

The BIVIO is suitable for a storage loft: you can access it without a separate ladder, and the hatch neatly closes off the ceiling. Its 26 mm hatch offers limited insulation; above a heated room, choose a hatch of 46 mm or more.

Allow 134 or 148 cm of floor space, depending on the frame, and 160 to 166 cm of clearance. Supplied with a handrail and protective feet; trim and an upper-floor safety railing are optional.

Installation advice

Loft opening: prepare an opening to fit the chosen frame, allowing approximately 5 mm around the perimeter. Check that there is at least 135 mm of clear height above the ceiling to accommodate the frame.

Fixing: secure the frame to the floor structure (joists and trimmers) with screws suitable for the material, following the instructions. Check that the frame is square before fully tightening the screws: a twisted frame will prevent the hatch from closing properly.

Adjustment: unfold the ladder, measure the ceiling height and trim the last section so that it rests flat on the floor. Fit the handrail. Finally, join the loft insulation around the frame to prevent thermal bridging.

Care and protection

Once a year, check that the screws are tight, inspect the joints between sections and make sure the hatch opening mechanism works properly. Lubricate the mechanisms if opening becomes difficult, and dust the treads.

The hatch can be painted to match the ceiling. Take care not to block the seal between the hatch and frame, which keeps out draughts.
