NERONNE Upper Quarter-Turn Staircase – Solid Fir, 280 cm, 13 Treads

The NERONNE upper quarter-turn staircase in solid fir is designed to connect two floors while making the most of the available stairwell opening. Its upper quarter-turn configuration means the 90° change of direction is at the top of the flight, just before the landing. This layout is particularly suitable when the stairwell opening is offset from the main direction of ascent, or when the layout of the room below requires the staircase to start in a different direction from the opening.

Designed for a 280 cm floor-to-floor height, with 13 treads and a 20 cm rise, it requires 287 cm of space in the direction of ascent. The recommended stairwell opening is at least 85x287 cm. Tread dimensions: 200x28 mm with risers / 200x32 mm without risers. Available in right- or left-hand versions, with or without risers and a handrail.

Installation advice

Decide which way the upper quarter-turn should go before ordering: right or left. To work this out, imagine yourself at the top of the staircase facing the landing – the turn is in the direction you would go to reach it. This choice cannot be changed once you have ordered.

Check the finished dimensions of the stairwell opening (85x287 cm minimum). The handrail on this staircase is not reversible: its installation side is determined by the direction ordered. If fitting a handrail, install it during assembly: the quarter-turn post also serves as a handrail post and must be accounted for from the outset. Fix the staircase to the floor, stairwell opening and wall in accordance with the instructions.

Care and protection

Apply an indoor finish before first use. For fir, two coats of staircase varnish provide effective protection (renew every 5–7 years); a hardwax oil is suitable for lighter use. For routine cleaning, dust or use a slightly damp cloth. Check that the fixings are tight once a year.

The difference between an upper and a lower quarter-turn is not merely aesthetic – it determines where the stairwell opening needs to be in the room. An upper quarter-turn is often chosen when the staircase rises alongside a wall and the opening continues from the upstairs corridor, with a sideways offset at the top. Draw a plan of your room showing the stairwell opening before choosing between an upper and a lower turn – choosing the wrong direction means you will need to reorder the staircase.
