TRIBALE Galvanised Metal Balustrade – Outdoor Spiral Staircase, 3 Lengths Available
The TRIBALE balustrade is made of galvanised metal and designed for outdoor spiral staircases. Galvanising provides lasting resistance to corrosion and weathering: this hot-dip treatment forms a protective zinc layer suited to environments exposed to rain, temperature changes and moisture. The balustrade is available in three lengths: 38 cm, 75 cm and 100 cm, to suit different spiral staircase tread dimensions.
The finished height is 1 metre, in line with regulations for outdoor balustrades. Installation fixings are not included because the appropriate type depends on the material of the staircase treads and central post. Intended for outdoor use only in its standard configuration.

Installation tips
Choose the length that matches your spiral staircase tread dimensions. Obtain fixings suited to the material of your treads and central post (steel, concrete or wood) – they are not included. Check that the balustrade is vertical with a spirit level before fully tightening the fixings. In coastal or high-humidity environments, periodically check the galvanising at fixing points, as drilling can breach the zinc layer.
Care and protection
Galvanising provides long-lasting protection without regular maintenance. Rinsing with fresh water once a year is enough to remove salt or limescale deposits. If a scratch or drilled hole breaches the zinc layer, apply zinc-rich anti-rust paint to prevent localised oxidation. Check that the fixings are tight after the first season of use – temperature changes can loosen joints slightly.
WoodUp tip
Good to know before buying: hot-dip galvanising offers lasting protection against rust, but it will not last indefinitely in highly aggressive environments, such as coastal or industrial areas. In these settings, check how often retreatment is recommended. This balustrade is designed for outdoor spiral staircases – check compatibility with your model before ordering. Installation fixings are not included: choose stainless steel fixings to avoid galvanic corrosion where they contact the galvanised metal.
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose between the 38 cm, 75 cm and 100 cm lengths?
The length corresponds to the depth of the spiral staircase tread where the balustrade is positioned. Measure the usable depth of your tread, from the outer edge to the central post or inner riser. On a standard spiral staircase with a diameter of 160 cm, treads are generally 60 to 75 cm deep at the centre, making 75 cm the most common length. Check your exact measurement before ordering.
Can this galvanised balustrade be painted?
Yes. Galvanised metal can be painted after degreasing and applying a primer specifically designed to adhere to zinc. Choose an oil-based paint or a specialist exterior metal paint. This is optional – unpainted galvanised metal naturally turns grey but remains protected. Dark paint (black or anthracite) is often used for a more attractive finish in contemporary settings.
Is this TRIBALE balustrade suitable for use near the sea?
Galvanised metal is suitable for most outdoor environments, including locations near the coast. In highly exposed marine environments (seafront locations with daily direct sea spray), stainless steel offers better durability over the very long term. For intensive use in a coastal setting, contact WoodUp to check whether stainless steel alternatives are available.
Can this balustrade be used on an indoor spiral staircase?
Technically, yes – galvanised metal also works indoors. For an indoor spiral staircase, you may prefer a model with a wooden handrail for a more comfortable grip (LUSETTE LUSETTE balustrade, OUMENET OUMENET balustrade or ESPINAS ESPINAS balustrade). The unpainted galvanised TRIBALE may look industrial in a home – painting it can change its appearance.
Can this galvanised balustrade be paired with a wooden handrail for a warmer look?
Yes. A wooden handrail can be fitted to most metal structures using compatible brackets. Solid beech or oak are the recommended woods for outdoor use with a water-repellent treatment – renew the wood protection every 2 to 3 years. Contact WoodUp to check whether a wooden handrail is available as an option for this TRIBALE model.
