TRIBALE Galvanised Metal Balustrade – Exterior Spiral Staircase, 3 Lengths Available
The TRIBALE balustrade is a model in galvanised metal designed for spiral staircases in exterior use. Galvanising provides durable resistance to corrosion and weathering — this hot-dip surface treatment forms a protective zinc layer that adapts to environments exposed to rain, temperature variations and humidity. The balustrade is available in three lengths: 38 cm, 75 cm and 100 cm, to suit the different step depths of the spiral staircase.
The finished height is 1 metre, compliant with the regulations for exterior balustrades. Fixing hardware is not included as it depends on the material of the steps and the central pole of the staircase. Exterior use only in its standard configuration.

Installation advice
Choose the length corresponding to the step depth of your spiral staircase. Provide fixing hardware suited to the material of your steps and central pole (steel, concrete, wood) — it is not included. Check that the balustrade is vertical using a spirit level before final tightening. In coastal or high-humidity environments, periodically check the condition of the galvanising at the fixing points — drilling may break through the zinc layer.
Maintenance and protection
Galvanising provides long-lasting protection without regular maintenance. A rinse with fresh water once a year is sufficient to remove salt or limescale deposits. If a scratch or drilling breaks through the zinc layer, apply a zinc-rich anti-rust paint to stop localised oxidation. Check that the fixings are tight after the first season of use — thermal variations may slightly loosen the joints.
Frequently asked questions
How to choose between the 38cm, 75cm and 100cm lengths?
The length corresponds to the depth of the step on the spiral staircase where the balustrade is positioned. Measure the usable depth of your step (from the outer edge to the central pole or inner riser). For a standard spiral staircase with a 160cm diameter, the steps are generally 60 to 75cm deep at the centre — the 75cm length is the most common. Check your precise measurement before ordering.
Can this galvanised balustrade be painted?
Yes. Galvanised metal can be painted after degreasing and application of a zinc-specific bonding primer. Choose a glycerophtalic paint or a specialist exterior metal paint. This step is optional — bare galvanised metal will naturally grey over time but remains protected. A dark paint (black, anthracite) is often applied for a more aesthetically pleasing result in a contemporary setting.
Is this TRIBALE balustrade suitable for maritime use (near the sea)?
Galvanised metal is suitable for most outdoor environments, including those close to the coast. In intensive marine zones (seafront, daily direct sea spray), stainless steel offers superior long-term durability. For intensive coastal use, contact WoodUp to check whether stainless steel alternatives are available.
Can this balustrade be used on an interior spiral staircase?
Technically yes — galvanised metal also works indoors. For an interior spiral staircase, you may prefer a model with a wooden handrail for a more comfortable grip (LUSETTE LUSETTE balustrade, OUMENET OUMENET balustrade or ESPINAS ESPINAS balustrade). The bare galvanised TRIBALE may look industrial in a residential interior — painting it can address this.
Can this galvanised balustrade be combined with a wooden handrail for a warmer feel?
Yes. A wooden handrail can be fitted to most metal structures using compatible mounting brackets. Solid beech or oak are the recommended timber species for exterior use with water-repellent treatment — renew the wood protection every 2 to 3 years. Contact WoodUp to check whether a wooden handrail is available as an option for this TRIBALE model.
